Barbados Special Events 2017


Barbados Open Gardens Programme - Every year, the Barbados Horticultural Society journey to the international Chelsea Flower Show in the UK and every year they come back with one or more medals. The annual Flower and Garden Show is the last Saturday and Sunday in January at their HQ and the Open Gardens Programme takes place in the weeks preceding and subsequent to that show.  This programme is eagerly anticipated by locals and visitors alike.  (January - February)

Barbados Open Houses Programme - The Open Houses Programme is a Winter Season event presented by the Barbados National Trust (BNT) and allows visitors and locals alike access to some of the Islands loveliest and grandest houses.  The programme includes all types of houses - from the old plantation houses rich with centuries of history to the new, luxurious Bajan-style villas.  It is a way to discover more about the Island’s diverse architecture and history.  (January through March)

Barbados Polo Club Season - The international polo season starts just after Christmas when the island is still abuzz with visitors and returning nationals.  The season runs through May and teams from worldwide visit our many polo fields.  With a healthy reputation for hospitality on and off the field, Barbados is known for a place where the sport flourishes and the social scene is first class.  If you are on the Island, this is an event to be experienced.  (January through May)

Naniki Barbados Music Festival - Naniki Barbados Music Festival celebrates Barbados' 50th year of Independence with 4 amazing shows. Artists include Oliver Jones, Third World, Asher Otto, Chrisette Michele, Nicholas Branker 

Mount Gay Round Barbados Race Series -  The race around Barbados dates back to the 19th century and is based upon bragging rights for the fastest “Trading Schooner”.  This was a prize worth its weight in gold to captains in an era where prices for cargo arriving ahead of rival ships commanded a massive premium.  While most boats sailed for the honor of fastest time, the consolation prize of a barrel of Mount Gay Rum for the slowest boat certainly spurred on some captains and had to be discontinued after two boats remained at sea for days stalling to take the prize!  Come along and have some fun on and off the water!  

Dinner with George is a unique, intimate theater and dining experience. The "Dinner with George" Washington has been labelled as "Barbados' newest and most exciting dinner theatre experience". Up to twenty-nine guest enjoy a truly authentic evening illuminated with candles and flaming torches soothed by the LIVE sounds from a violin and cello duet. A sumptuous 5 course dinner is served in a wonderfully romantic setting accompanied by fine old world wines and the very dining room where young George dined for 6 weeks, in 1751. A truly fun dining experience, the George Washington House Dinner Theatre Production, "An Evening with George" is available every Monday in January to mid April.



Holetown Festival - The Holetown Festival commemorates the anniversary of the first settlement in Barbados at Holetown in 1627.  The Festival has become so popular that it takes place from Sunday to Sunday in mid-February.  Opening ceremonies begin at the Holetown Monument and highlights include Bajan cultural and historic activities, as well as local cuisine, music and craft events. 



Barbados Holders Season - Founded in 1993, the Holders Season is established as the premier cultural event in the Caribbean.  Acclaimed nationally and internationally, the Season is a celebration of opera, music and theatre.

The Sandy Lane Gold Cup Horse Racing - The Sandy Lane Gold Cup race is one of the biggest sporting events on the island of Barbados and the most prestigious horse race on the Eastern Caribbean racing event calendar.  This event attracts many visitors from around the world and the activities leading up to race day include many cultural events and entertainment.  Some of these events and the race day, itself, are covered by international media worldwide.  



Oistins Fish Festival - Held mid-month in the town of Oistins on the South Coast, the Oistins Fish Festival celebrates the contributions made by those people involved in the local fishing industry.  It highlights local music, food and cultural events over several days and attracts both locals and visitors alike.

Barbados Gospel Fest - With over 100 religious sects operating in Barbados, it is inevitable that there would be a religious festival on the Island.  Playing an important role in the spiritual lives of Barbadians, gospel music is paramount and the growth of this festival over the years indicates just how important it is.  This festival brings together some of the top gospel artistes, not only locally, but from around the world. (Dates to be announced)  

Golden Oldies World Cricket Festival - Barbados is set to host the Golden Oldies World Cricket Festival, an international tournament for semi-professional and retired players. 



LIMACOL Caribbean Premier League - This is an annual Twenty20 cricket tournament held in the Caribbean.  It was created in 2013 and replaced the Caribbean Twenty20 as the premier Twenty20 competition in the Caribbean.  The tournament includes six franches with 15 contracted players each, including a maximum of four international players and four players under the age of 23.  Each team has one local and one international franchise players.  The teams represent the following six islands in the Caribbean -- Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, and Trinidad and Tobago.  Six stadiums are used, each a home field for one of the teams.  Therefore, locals and visitors alike enjoy cricket with a colorful carnival experience as only the Caribbean can provide.  (Actual Dates TBD June to August)

SOL Rally Barbados - Recognized as the Caribbean’s biggest annual international motor sport event, it attracts around 100 crews, with at least one-third of them from the wider Caribbean and worldwide.  This event is a two day tarmac rally which is held in late May, generating hours of television coverage with more than 20 special states spread across the Island between Friday and Sunday evenings.  It also include the LIME King of the Hill “shakedown” which is held the previous weekend.  


July - August

Crop Over Festival -  Crop Over is Barbados’ premier summer festival and marks the end of the crop harvest season.  The festival attracts visitors from worldwide, as well as many Bajans living office the island return home at this time to join the festivities with family and friends.  The Festival ends on the first Monday in August with Kadooment Day

Barbados Food and Wine and Rum Festival - This month is the time when we welcome top international chefs to our shores for the annual Barbados Food & Wine and Rum Festival!  Locals and visitors are treated to several days of the very best international cuisine, cooking demonstrations, wine discussions and an education on what goes into making the PERFECT Rum Punch!  (Dates to be announced)
